SAE J1772 Standard

March 19, 2011

I've removed all the J1772 history stuff. I had a good time gathering all the information while the standard was being written, but the Plugs and Inlets are now available for us EVer's, which was my goal.

I still find the "standard" absurd when you consider that for Gasoline, all you have to do to pump gas is to sqeeze the lever and gas will come gushing out. There are no safety features at all, no override, no failsafe, no 'you can't pump if the nozzle is not in your tank inlet' features. You can pump gas into any kind of contaner... didn't James Dean fill up his Zippo in "Giant"? There is no Proximity Circut in a gas pump, you can just drive away....

The J1772 Plugs and Inlets are available at www.TucsonEV.com. There is also a J1772 Adapter Box there so that any EV conversion can use a J1772 EVSE.

There is also some J1772 info on the 'where to charge' page, mostly about charging in Tucson.
